I was a mediocre artist before I started reading Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain by Dr. Betty Edwards. I’ve improved a lot since then. I no longer need to use a grid when I’m drawing. This drawing was originally a black and white pencil sketch and I decided to edit and color it in Photoshop. You can still see traces of the grid lines (I’m removing them with the spot healing brush tool). This book is widely acclaimed and it will make it easy to draw pictures, but I have to say it does have its critics. Sometimes I just don’t get critics but I guess everyone is entitled to their opinion. All I know is that it worked for me as it has for many, many others. I’d be surprised if your local library doesn’t carry this book. Go there and check it out!
